Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentine’s Day everybody! Whether you celebrate by indulging in the rites of Lupercalia or just plain overdose on chocolate: just have a nice day!

It has been an interesting few weeks here in Rehoboth:

Firstly we finally adopted a dog. It’s been a long time coming. The debate about having a pooch had been raging for years. Our lives would be changed forever. Well, here we are. 26 pounds of “mutt”. Supposedly some sort of Terrier mix and most likely about one year old. She’s got more energy than a power station. She answers to “Blossom”. Not a name I would have chosen.

Secondly the weather has been abominable. First it snowed, then it thawed, then it froze again. Followed by a bit of rain, which froze on top of the mess already on the ground, which left us with sheets of ice. The sidewalks were pretty treacherous, no thanks to the Delaware Department of Transportation snow plows. They came through plowing the road, with all the snow then ending up on the sidewalks.

Which brings me to my third point. The pooch has to be walked of course. (I bet you all know already where this is going!) So on one of our outings, just feet from our front door, Blossom decided to go left, while I wanted to go right. Unfortunately this all happened on a patch of black ice and I promptly ended up on the ground on my left side. Excruciating pain ensued. No matter how I tried, I could not get up. However I was able to get to my phone and have Siri call Brad. He came out of the house and called 911. Rehoboth Beach’s Finest came out and hauled me to the local emergency room.

Me in pre-op. Whatever drugs they gave me seem to be working. LOL

The end result: a shattered left shoulder, necessitating a complete, left, reverse shoulder arthroscopy. Oh, great joy: now I have two artificial shoulders, the right shoulder having been replaced some years ago:

My right “shoulder”. Done some years ago.

Convalescing is going well. I do have a “therapy dog” after all!

Tuesday next I will see the orthopedic surgeon again. Hopefully the bandages will come off, giving me just a bit more unrestricted movement of my left arm.

Oh, and I just about forgot to mention it. With all this going on, the furnace decided to give up the ghost. Fixed now.

What an interesting two weeks.
